Haiku Wi-Fi Project Started

wifi.jpg
A news tip from Andrea Bernardi at OsDrawer. It seems Ithamar Adema (aka Colacoder) has quietly begun work and submitted code for a Haiku wireless network stack based on FreeBSD's.

From the project's Wiki:

"This project aims to be a central repository for all work on ticket 1050, e.g. the ticket created on the Haiku site to track development of a Wireless stack for Haiku. Since there are several people interested in working on this, I thought it to be a good idea to create a central repository instead of messing about with the ticket system too much (which is cool, but not really meant to do development in ;)).

If anyone has ideas, patches, or even finished code, please contact me.

Colacoder (aka ithamar)."

A Haikuware bounty for the wireless stack currently exists with >$500 USD in the fund.

Ithamar is also looking for help with the project...

In other news, Anton Sokolov reports that he was able to build AbiWord on Haiku. A binary hasn't been released yet.

Having up to date features will get Haiku on the map. Lets face it, most people use wireless on their laptops so it's a requirement for a modern OS!

@mikedoth, agreed! I hope this will be available for R1.

I wonder if they'll do a OpenOffice port?
