With the shift to online applications, Haiku users now have another alternative for their Office Suite needs. Microsoft announced the availability of their free online Office Suite today. It's immediately available to Live users here. *update - to everyone in the US, UK, Canada, and Ireland...

As you can see, the suite runs just fine under Haiku and WebPositive! One can create Word, Excel, Powerpoint and One Note documents.


One can also apparently upload and import existing documents, which is extremely useful and important. As of yet, there really isn't an up-to-date Office Suite for Haiku, and porting something like Open Office would be extremely time consuming and difficult.

Some people aren't proponents of proprietary software and formats, but for me, the more options the better. Seeing as perhaps 90% of the world's office documents are in Microsoft's formats, it will probably be an important tool for Haiku users, or migrating users.
