Scanner (s) working under Haiku!
BeOS Comaptibility seems to be paying dividends for Haiku. Legacy scanner software and drivers with no recompiling bring scanner support to Haiku! Have an old scanner??? Try it out using Sanity & Besane, and you might just be rewarded like Meanwhile :-D
Meanwhile got his Epson Perfection 610 to scan an image of the BeOS Bible under Haiku (see below)!...

Mini Interview - Diver (Sergei Reznikov)
Sergei recently won our April Thank You Award. Like all winners, we asked him a few questions with regards to his activity in the Haiku community:
Q1: How old are you and what do you do to pay the bills?
I'm 27 years old and I (together with my girlfriend) have been running a medium sized ISP company in Moscow for the last several years now. Before that I had been working as a support engineer in the very same company where I become pretty familiar with lots of network related quirks - both software and hardware and various user problems. So I usually know what could go wrong and how to fix different problems on user's PCs. But now I'm happy not to communicate much with ordinar users :-) ...

The BeOS file system: an OS geek retrospective
There's an excellent article by Andrew Hudson (andrewzx1 at Haikuware) about the history and current function of BeOS' and Haiku's filesystem includin
June 2010 - 17th TYA Winners

Well, I think there was some sort of underlying conspiracy to see both Pier and Darkwyrm take this Thank You Award together (just kidding)!

With all those votes and them being that close, it would have been bad to see either lose out. So, once again, we'll have to award two prizes :)
Wifi Encryption Bounty Update

The donation graphic on our frontpage for the Wifi Encryption Bounty isn't an error! I had to rub my eyes twice when I got the email, and then check PayPal to verify, but today we had a rather large donation and now the fundraising campaign is ~82% complete (>$1600 USD available!).
Hopefully a community developer will follow up on the success of the Wireless Networking Stack and now take on the Wifi Encryption Bounty, as I'm sure the remaining balance will soon be filled. Seems some community members are eager to have this in Haiku

New Caya Build Brings MSN Support to Haiku
Pier Luigi Fiorini has been hard at work on Caya, a multi-protocol Instant Messaging application for Haiku. It's been quite a while since Haiku had a decent native instant messaging application I'm old enough to remember the first big IM app, ICQ. ICQ was around before MSN, before they bundled it with their Operating System, eventually killing ICQ.

Catchy title? No worries, I'm not letting steam out on anyone, or on a rant again. If you want to blow stuff up and have some fun under Haiku with com
Artur Wyszynski Interview - Haiku OpenGL Kit
There's a good interview by Maxim Sokhatsky in which Artur Wyszynski tells us about the state of Haiku's current OpenGL implementation, and his future plans here:
Maxim: Tell us about yourself ?
Artur: I'm a 27 years old, working as a game developer in GameLion Studios, long time BeOS user and almost 2-3 years Haiku developer :)

A little over half a year after their initial Alpha release, Haiku Inc. has released their second Alpha. Congratulations to all the developers and vol
My Haiku Library and Application Rant
It's been a while since I had a good rant. The comments below were in response to a forum thread about missing libraries under Haiku.
" I don't think you can blame Haiku if a 3rd party app doesn't include all needed libs or doesn't mention the needed libs. Of course a reason for that is that most of them aren't maintained anymore and were just grabbed and put up at Haikuware."
The frequent posts by users about why their applications (native or BeOS) won't work under Haiku sickens me. It's really a very simple solution. I outline my thoughts:

I've replaced the chat client here on our website with an Ajax chat client implementation. The last client on the site here was a clunky Java version
