If you could target for gcc2 that would be even better since Haiku releases gcc2hybrid versions. This way these re-compiled programs would be more compatible for the majority of Haiku users.
It want libintl.so.8 where I can get it?
here is my config file
http://pastebin.com/m5d062602
music = ext (as says in readme).
download this game:
www.haikuware.com/directory/view-details/games/classics/smash-battle
run.
See that plays music (sounds will play well).. if not, it's because you don't have libvorbis installed :D!
http://downloads.khinsider.com/game-soundtracks/album/heroes-of-might-magic-2
later, rename one by one as you can read on readme file
put on the music folder.. and so adjust the configuration file..
I hope that works so well to you as work here..
Don't forget of libvorbis ;)
thanks!
For example
with this list
downloads.khinsider.com/game-soundtracks/album/heroes-of-might-magic-2
05 - city of the warlock.mp3
music in the game is the
07 Warlock Castle.ogg
and for example 27.ogg, wich music is?
31 - skill acquired.mp3 ?
http://ports.haiku-files.org/attachment/ticket/292/fheroes2.patch
I off "music = ext" in config, and it not crash anymore for me. But if I switch on this option it will crash, seems something wrong with libvorbis (according debug message)
http://www.abandonline.com/gameinfo.php?id=53
The maps are in .MAP and .CMP, not in .mp2
When starting fheroes2, there is a black window, and then it exits without any message.
any chance to mess with the code to rebuild it on gcc2 ?

This is all gcc2 especific problems..
For those wanting to game, they really should switch over to gcc4 system.
Since Haiku releases are gcc2 hybrid officially - good to support them too if you can.
Way better if a solution can be found to get gcc4 games working on gcc2 system without recompiling. Maybe filing a Haiku bug and seeing if a developer can figure out a workaround to get this fixed. The point of hybrid system was to let gcc4 and gcc2 software to work on the OS.
A good solution is to change your top banner to give a clearer message to uninformed people. I included a link to Haiku's about so anyone wanting to learn more about Haiku could follow a link.
Top banner message like below,
HAIKUWARE
Software for Haiku Operating System - Not for Windows, Linux or any other OS!!!
http://haiku-os.org/about
That would be exceedingly ugly IMH0!
I did originally have 'Haikuware - Software for the Haiku Operating System', but was contacted by a Haiku director, and he convinced me to rename it to 'Haikuware - Software for Haiku'...
Anyways, I thing that most users search for the above app through Google:
www.google.ca/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=Free+Heroes+of+Might+and+Magic+I#sclient=psy&hl=en&safe=off&source=hp&q=Free+Heroes+of+Might+and+Magic+II&aq=f&aqi=g1g-v4&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&pbx=1&fp=cba0178b09ca64e2
don't read anything, assume all software is for Windows, and just download it...
Correct, most users search with Google and Haikuware is likely one of the first results to show so they go download stuff thinking it'll work on Windows. Keep in mind that to them Haiku means poetry if they know the word. So, your banner might be interpreted as saying "software that is like Japanese poetry". ie: elegant software. You should bring the point across that Haiku is another OS. Unless you want lots of Windows users downloading off Haikuware - will cost you data transfer but keep your ranking high in Google.
Ok, the biggest issue is using only the term Haiku is not clear itself. First thing that comes to my mind is poetry. For instance, go to someone, who doesn't know the OS and ask them what they think about Haiku. Guess what. They'll think you're asking them about writing Japanese poetry.
If you tell someone you use Haiku they may ask what poetry you write, etc.
The term Haiku is associated with Japanese poetry. So, choosing it for the name of an OS made it confusing especially by leaving out OS at the end. Haiku OS would have made better sense and removed most confusion.
Go ask someone about Debian. They may say what is that and you'll say Linux. Guess what. They'll hopefully know what Linux is because the word is very unique (means one thing - related to operating system). They either will know the term Linux or not, in which case they'll look it up or ask, and not assume what the meaning is.
anyways, regarding your 'you tell someone you use Haiku, they may ask what poetry you write'; i do think every discussion has some context, and the context of the discussion would have been established before that question as computers. you could say the same thing about apple.
the first thing that comes to mind when someone says apple, is the shiny red fruit - computers; that's another story.
You're right Karl that context is required first. But look at haikuware as a non-Haiku user and think where is the context on this site that tells people that Haiku represents an OS. Anyone downloading from here may think they are getting elegant software just like Japanese poetry for Windows. People don't understand the meaning of Haiku - as an OS.
Very interesting to see companies use food to represent technology. Aren't Android releases named gingerbread, honeycomb? What about Blackberry, Apple, etc.?
I bring this up to keep you out of trouble by not going with HaikuOS.
Also, if you add "not for Windows, Linux or others", you can just leave it at 'Haiku' instead of 'Haiku Operating System'.
