About BeOS 5 Personal Edition:

Note: BeOS does not properly run on modern computers. Patches are available, but the Haiku OS team has been making a lot of progress towards a truly free and community-developed successor to the BeOS. You can even download a free version of the latest daily build to try out at their site.

Variation description:

BeOS R5 Personal Edition for Linux

This is a mirror of BeOS R5 Personal Edition for Linux. It comes in a tarred/gzipped file, making extraction easy and painless. Simply extract BeOS4Linux.tar.gz to a directory named BeOS anywhere on the boot partition and use dd to make a boot disk. An example usage of dd would be:
dd if=floppy.img of=/dev/fd0
Your particular setup may require you to alter the parameters somewhat, but this should work for most people (I think . . .).

Note:
This does not in any way alter or harm your Linux installation. BeOS Personal Edition is entirely self-contained within a file installed onto your Linux partition. If you would like to put it in its own partition, however, you may do that from within BeOS.

Also note: As disclosed above, this version of BeOS will not boot on certain processors or systems with more than 1 GB of RAM. If you're having problems booting, that may be the cause. BeOS Max Edition and BeOS Developer Edition (links below) are distributions of BeOS that include patches for the processor bugs. In addition, BeOS Max Edition may soon include a patch for the memory issue.
