About ESS 1869 AudioDrive Driver:

ESS 1869 Audio Driver for the ESS 1869 Sound Card.

I hacked this driver because all the other drivers like this were
for the chipset and not for the actual card by ESS. This driver
changes that! You can now use the ESS 1869 ISA sound card
in BeOS! I want to thank Mr. Wang for the original ESS18xx
driver source so I could modify it to make it work.

Q. How in the heck to I install this thing?!?!

A. Very easy! Just extract the file(I would use your
home folder). It will create a folder called ESS1869.
Next, open terminal (Be Menu > Applications >
Terminal) CD into the directory. (/boot/home/ess1869)
Type ./install. Let it compile the stuff. You might get some
errors, ignore them. Then it ask you if you want to
Restart the Media server. I would click no and restart.
That's it! you got a working sound card :)


Q. Why doesn't the Line In or Mic In work?

A. To be honest, I don't know why. This was a quick hack
of this driver and I was really trying to make it work for CD
and just plain output. If I ever get the time to do it I will.
If someone wants to modify the source, be my guest. I would
love to see someone finish it.
