Description:

Update 0.3.8:

The Output of the Engine is now showed to the user.

When the engine is thinking a you will see a yellow LED to the left of the name of the engine. when the engine is thinking you can always stop it by pressing "Go button" or press on "move now" or press "space" on the keyboard.

A lot of bugs have been fixed. In fact all that I know about.

I rewrote some parts so that now the game works quite fluent.

This is an important update, please update

This is perhaps the version which I consider acceptable and already useable.

I'm confident that it wont take that long and it will be one of the best open source chess games.

Changes in version 0.3.5:

The engine Stockfish is now compiled with support for old cpu's, that means, you can play now against the engine even your cpu is older than pentium 4.
After starting the game, you will see now a window, where you must first decide if you want to play online or offline. If you want to play online you have to enter ou username and password and the press "online", otherwise press "offline"
No longer the need of the command line for playing on FICS. You have now a list where you can sort the games that are offered, and you can select my double clicking on a line, or by marking the game that you want with the mouse, and the press on the "Accept" button. If you want to give a game offer, press on "seek" button and then a windows appear and you can choose the values you want.
If you want to restrict the games you are offered, you can press on "formula" button, and there your options.
Settings: all settings made by the user are stored so that he doesnt need to do them again, after closing the game. Also the last window position and size is saved, and also the position of the Splitters. (Just collapsed splitters are not saved, because of a bug in haiku).

IMPORTANT:

You need Haiku alpha 3 to run this application

There is a memory leak (it seems it's caused the haiku, and not by puri itself). Especially resizing the chess board window will leak memory.

thank you for the link, I was indeed looking for vector icons, and they are so hard to find (at least, the free ones).

Ribbon Interface:
When I will have again time for writing code, I planned to replace the normal menu's by a ribbon interface, but I noticed that some people dont like ribbon interfaces, so I'm curious how you think about it. Take a look at the following picture (which is the game from where I have my "inspiration" :-)

) and tell me how you like their idea of using a ribbon interface instead of normal menu's

Thanks for a great application, native and in C + +. cipri: if he could deal with a native version of the MAME emulator for Haiku? Old BeOS version of MAME is outdated and does not use all the features of Haiku and MAME. Beyond this is a crude and external frontends for it are not in C + + and are ugly.

I'm not a big fan of emulators :-)

I hope that we get as soon as possible Gallium3D and then i will improve the 3D-mode of the chess game.
Somehow I have now not much free time, and so i planned to spend all the time I can get, on that chess game to make it the best open
source/freeware chess game.

I would be curious what other native applications the haiku users would like to have, I was thinking to make a poll and ask.
