About Datawing:
Database management system and programmers API for BeOS.
Datawing DBMS is a new database management system built from scratch for BeOS. It takes full advantage of symetric multi-threading and BeOS' client server architecture to bring a database system that is completely data aware.
Release 3.5 of the DBMS contains the stand-alone Datawing API, which allows programmers to bring data-awareness into their applications, and the Datawing File System and Server, which are the backbone of the database management system (Note that the file system and server are in continuing development) and for the new Datawing Desktop application.
If you are interested then download Release 3.5 or visit the Datawing home page to find out more.
Complete data-awareness?
Imagine this scenario:
Two colleagues are updating a batch of addresses on a database, several of the addresses overlap. They are viewing the addresses in a tabular form. With conventional databases the data on the screen would have been "fetched" from the database some time ago and might not represent what is actually on disk; one colleague could have changed an address in the mean time. The other colleague may waste precious moment updating an address that has already been changed. With Datawing's complete data-awareness the colleagues will be able to see instantly when an address in the table has been updated by the other person.
