BeScreenCapture Download

Description:
BeOS/Haiku Logo
About BeScreenCapture:

An application to capture the content of your screen and save it to a "movie".

This app lets you capture the content of your screen, and save it in any movie format supported by your BeOS.
It uses BDirectWindow for minimum CPU-usage.
See the included README for more info.

Details about this version:

- Added a "pause/resume" option, which is only accessible from the deskbar addon.
- It writes "keyframes" more often (actually, only the first frame was a keyframe before this version).
- Reworked some internals, should result in slightly better responsiveness and smoother recording.
- Improved a bit the deskbar addon

Bug fixes:
- The fake cursor wasn't drawn correctly (thanks to Stephan Assmus for bugging me about this)

Checked, but not seems to work. Im getting "initialisation error" on two chosen codecs built-in haiku system while trying to record screen.

Wow, just tested this on Alpha 2, and it works! No missing libraries or anything. What a kick ass app, uses Haiku's media encoding kit... A really good example of an excellent legacy BeOS application supported by Haiku - a gem.

full screen recording works for me. GUI needs to be updated for Haiku as some dialogs are partly obscured. Would like to user pauses in playback. Audio overlay would be really nice also.

I still get "initialisation error" when stopping a recording with a current Haiku. What's different in your setup? I used all the defaults.

Regards,
Humdinger

Nothing special in my setup. I am also using defaults. Mine is R1. Have you installed any additional codecs?

It's a bit fresher than r1a2. No additional codecs installed. My defaults are AVI, MP4. I also tried MPEG as format (Matroska is nor selectable), same error.

I also have same error and also have little bit fresher than alpha2.

Uh oh. Could be a compatibility issue with A2. Are you on ohloh? This guy is the author:

I used AVI with the MP4 codec.

Karl, where did you install from? Do you have a URL for the codec?

OK, I installed it on a fresh A2, used AVI/MP4 and it works fine. Although last played frame is dark.

wow, you can see how as Haiku progresses less and less works on it. Tested on Alpha 2.

The problems with alpha2 are caused by the missing /tmp folder. Since I had hardcoded "/tmp" instead of using the correct find_directory function. I've fixed this problem in the code hosted at osdrawer. There hasn't been yet a new binary release of BeScreenCapture, but the code has seen a big overhaul, and it's now using the Haiku layout system.
http://dev.osdrawer.net/projects/8 . I guess I should take the time and make a new release.

this is exactly why that bloody 'beoscompatibility' package shouldn't be optional!! it causes so many problems with legacy software by not being included by default. it costs no space whatsoever, and is just a few links that would save everyone loads of headaches.

OTOH, not being compatible can motivate a dev not only to make the minimum change to get it to run again, but even improve the app...

Sure you could use that argument; but prob 80% is abandonware. For the active devs that may bring their apps up to date for Haiku, they have little time; so it'd be nice to have something in the meantime.

Good quality video but still kind of choppy. We need to add time code to BeScreenCapture.

yea not bad! I guess with Clockwerk one could add audio :-*
