20th TYA Nominations

Hello folks, please send/comment any nomination (with reason), you have for our upcoming Dec. Thank You Award - where we put shirts on the backs of developers Laughing

Here are the nominees for the 20th TYA:

Gutenprint funds raised

gutenprint-banner-leftAfter some generous donations to the Gutenprint bounty by community members, the goal of $2000 was reached today (well, $3.75 short *thanks Matt - please remember PayPal's fees when topping up your amount). At least the 50/50 plan and successful completion of the bounty worked for 1/3 bounties so far (never know until you try!) Thanks to all to the donors.

Browser Wars - Haiku Browser Benchmarks

imgres3dEyes submits the results of testing BeZilla, WebPositive & Arora on Haiku using Google's V8 Benchmark Suite and then comparing these results with Firefox, Chromium and Arora on Ubuntu. The results seem to indicate very good performance of Arora in Haiku (with QTWebkit); with scores roughly four times better than the native browser WebPositive. Who said Qt on Haiku wasn't a good idea? It's also noteworthy that there's relatively little difference in performance running Arora with Qt on Ubuntu vs Haiku. Chromium on Ubuntu takes the cake though, blowing away everything else (although, we all know what Google Chrome is based on; a third party test would remove suspicion in this regard).

BeOSRADIO Celebrates 10th Anniversary with a New Name

BeOSRadio Celebrates its 10th Anniversary with a new name.

While it has evolved over the past decade, the Internet radio station BeOSRADIO has retained much of the same spirit and approach as it had when it first started broadcasting.

It was in August of 2000 that Dane Scott, who was writing daily reports about BeOS audio for the leBUZZ web site, speculated about the potential of using BeOS to do radio broadcasting....

Gutenprint testers wanted...

gutenprint-banner-leftWorking on the Gutenprint bounty,  Michael Pfeiffer (laplace) has just committed his port of Gutenprint to Haiku  (changeset 32916).
  • Added Gutenprint printer driver add-on to image.
  • This is still a work in progress: Printing should work with the following restrictions:
  • Color printing is untested.
  • Some configuration options provided by Gutenprint are missing.
  • Error reporting is missing.
  • The page margins should at least to increased to 1 cm or 0.4 Inch.
Michael intends on ironing out the configuration options and fixing any bugs that users experience. Please test out Gutenprint on Haiku with your supported printer and report back here, or file a bug report if you encounter problems. Anyone with a colour cartridge?

Only nine people have contributed to this bounty, with some pretty hefty donations. Please spare a couple of bucks and support the long-time Haiku developer that's taken on this bounty! Now's your chance to say thanks and contribute to something that you'll all end up using; he may be done before you know it:
