Axel updates his progress on the Wifi Encryption Bounty. Summarizing his blog, two out of three milestones have been completed, but the rather important part, the wpa_supplicant port, isn't yet working.

With the Wifi Encryption bounty coming due soon (the required funds have been raised), it's interesting to see the following after the results of the 'Future Haiku Features' survey.
The top two requested features for Haiku R1 are:
#1 - Wifi + WPA, WPA2 Encryption
#2 - Wifi userland tools - ifconfig integration

NetworkStatus now joins a network when you select one. If you need a password, you need to have it configured in your "interfaces" settings file. This could look like this:
network my-ssid-name {
authentication wep
password gurkensalat
}
Of course, the cleartext password will go away in the future.

Jérôme Duval (korli) won this edition of the Thank You Award for his work on the ext3 filesystem, the bus manager, ffmpeg & freetype and keeping various components up to date (amongst other things). It was a hotly contested poll with fairly balanced voting. Congratulations! Thanks also to the other candidates for their valuable contributions of course.
