Any hopes for a new Yab release? 1 year, 2 months ago #1862

Hi everyone,

it's about time we ask ourselves a serious question: should we keep waiting for a new Yab release? It has been a long shot since the last version was released.
I tried to stir up the things a bit in a previous post, a couple of months ago, but so far no new release.
From what I read in a post, there is/was a Yab 1.6 being developed, but it has not been released so far.

The thing is, serious doubts are creeping up: has the project been discontinued?

Could we please be informed, at least, if we should expect a new release or not?

(Sometime back I contacted jan_64 and the Maui Team, asking about this, but I got no reply; could anyone on the forum try to contact them personally?)

Thanks

HaikuForever

Four months went by and not even one reply to my previous post. Very sad indeed. This seems to be a confirmation that the yab development project indeed has been abandoned. Sigh.

Anyone for Lua?

Yes i think there is no new version on the way, because i ever hear anything of Jan__64 the developer of yab. I get the yab version 1.6 an do it online past many time (get it on BeGeistert 22).

Here: haikuware.com/directory/view-details/dev...n-from-begeistert-22

I hope for a new version anytime but any attempt to contact the developer is missing beat, no answer.

I guess we'll all have to move to python sooner or later: python_partially_working. I'm giving C++ another shot with DarkWyrm's tutorials.

Please do not give up with the Yab. In it a simple and fast writes!

Sorry for my english...

Best regards!

Yabasic 3 is currently being developed. Among other neat features, Yabasic 3 will have:

modules (SDL, Curses, etc.)
structures and user-defined types
a fast register-based virtual machine
a consistent, system-independent core.

It is really a pity, because Yab bindings work well and the language is nice and sweet, ideal for those who want to start programming and for amateur programmers. But without further development, it is inexorably doomed to fade into history.

I had already considered the Python option. Personally, I would rather use Lua, which has already been ported to Haiku, although the bindings are not available yet, and therefore it may take quite some time before Lua is fully usable in Haiku. My preference for Lua is due to the fact that it is simpler and lightweight, much more in harmony with the Haiku concept. It is also very efficient and powerful. Unfortunately, I will have to wait, it seems.
