Working on the Gutenprint bounty, we're pleased to announce that Michael Pfeiffer (laplace) has made some serious progress bringing native printing to Haiku. From Michael:
'I am happy to let you know that I was able to print the text "Test" from StyledEdit to my Canon MP210 printer using Gutenprint under Haiku.
I can even reproduce the bug described in this ticket, that the page gets printed again and again!
Now comes the boring and time consuming work to get the configuration options into the UI. I guess I will start with that next weekend.'
*Update: Michael has also fixed the mentioned USBTransport bug.

The number of people that donated to this bounty so far? A whopping four people. Please spare a couple of bucks and support the long-time Haiku developer that's taken on this bounty!

We're pleased to announce that Michael Pfeiffer (laplace) has taken on the CUPS bounty, only the Bringing Gutenprint over to Haiku would bring the possibility of having hundreds of supported printers under Haiku.
Michael already has the core of Gutenprint built for Haiku. From here on, and within a timeframe of six months, Michael plans to:
- complete a Haiku 'libprint' based printer add-on that utilizes Gutenprint for generation of printer specific data.
- be able to select a Gutenprint supported printer through Haiku's printing preferences application.
- integrate Gutenprint's configuration option (i.e paper sizes, quality, etc) into the printer add-on.
- fix printer related bug #6008

It's time again to suggest your favourite developers/community contributors for our Thank You Award.
Please remember that we're looking for nominations of developers/community contributors that haven't previously won the award and that their contribution to Haiku has been recent (the last two months). Also, we need more than just a name - please substantiate the nomination.
