Pre-scan works, the actual scan leads to KDL...(tested on an Epson Perfection 610)

+2 # RE: RE: ScanItkarl 2010-06-12 10:04
wow, since there's no scanner support under Haiku, this seems worth filing a bug report for if pre-scan works.

the author's website still exists. wonder if he'd consider releasing/donating sources... i've emailed the author.

Yeah, he seems like a rather good developer (from what I can judge). In general I think we (?) should make use of the proverbial 'soft spot' that many ex-BeOS developers still have for the OS, and try to get them active for Haiku. An entire Haiku dept. should be set up, devoted to only that goal, IMHO.

BTW, the bug has already been filed here:
dev.haiku-os.org/ticket/6162

Karl, any news from the TV-card front?

We'll see what Oliver says. Good job filing the bug.

I haven't heard anything more re: tv card driver :(

wow, that's awesome that it works that far, even the GUI looks in-line! would be a big plus to have at least some working scanners in Haiku. that pre-scan must save a file somewhere of the scan; or not? in /boot/common/cache or wherever the temp is now...?

+3 # RE: ScanItMeanwhile 2010-06-12 12:46
Hm, it's not in boot/common/cache...I hope Oliver Kuechemann knows more.
Only thing I found in /boot/common/cache/tmp are a few .bin files whose names start with 'usb_hid_report_descriptor_'.

Hi Meanwhile. I've spoken with Oliver, he may look into this :) He thinks it may be a file storage problem (or memory allocation) as well. From the terminal, please run:

installoptionalpackage beoscompatibility

then retry. Releasing sources wouldn't be possible due to some NDAs signed.

0 # RE: RE: RE: ScanItMeanwhile 2010-06-13 11:48
Thanks, but no luck yet. Terminal says:
/boot/common/cache/tmp/install-optpkg.sh: line 263: AddDirectoryToHaikuImage; command not found
so I'm not sure if that caused it, but the KDL's remain.
Anyhow, good news he may look into this; thanks for contacting him.

it seems there was an error installing that package. try making the links manually, as outlined here:

dev.haiku-os.org/changeset/35415

also

/boot/var/tmp to /boot/common/cache/tmp

+1 # RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: ScanItMeanwhile 2010-06-13 12:10
The KDL's remain. Seems I'll just have to wait in line, like everybody else :D

hehe yea guess so. ah well. hopefully we can bring him back to develop for Haiku! seems really talented.

Indeed. Oliver, if you read this: I can send the scanner to you for testing if you want!

For Sanity to work, you must install before BeSANE, which latest version can be found here.

which can't be found 'here'...

i stand corrected

well, anyone have a pre Sept. 2001 scanner to test this with? There's a fair number of drivers in there, although it doesn't list the supported devices.

I tried once to setup an Hardware Compatiblity List page for BeSANE:

http://philippe.houdoin.free.fr/phil/beos/besane/hcl-en.html

Take it as it is: an outdated incomplete HCL page I wrote circa my SANE 1.0.5 port. I can't be held responsible for nothing if your scanner don't works or starts to fire sparks when trying this old SANE port!

In contrario, if your scanner works, I claim some credit ;-)

Just kidding: it's just good luck if Meanwhile and I have both an Epson Perfection 610...

Hey, totally overlooked that page: thanks Philippe..
You deserve all the credit and I had forgotten to give it here on Haikuware (now corrected in the Hardware Database). But...(to make up for it) on Flickr I had already thought about it on time: www.flickr.com/photos/40897190@N08/4697536736/

I'm curious who else will find out he/she has a scanner that works in Haiku.

The list makes it even easier to get scanning with a new old scanner from Ebay or the local flea-market  maybe even at over 300 dpi.

I'm thinking of adding the USB ones from that hardware list to the hardware database that they *should be supported, but are untested; what do you think?

0 # RE: RE: RE: BeSANE v1.0.5 kinda-HCLMeanwhile 2010-06-14 06:42
Sounds reasonable to me, perhaps with the disclaimer from Philippe...but in that case also please add 'black smoke' to the side-effects :P

Maybe Sanity and BeSANE can be added to the software section too?

+1 # RE: RE: ScanItkvdmantester 2010-06-13 15:49
yea, I'd have to ask the author.

*I've mailed him. Would also like to get a better idea of the supported devices.

by the way, you might be able to get the device IDs with this utility. I find it handy for USB devices:

Hm, my old scanner gets a disrespectful 'Null device' description. ;-)

Update: I found the info through Mac OSX (now added)

0 # USB Commanderandrewzx1 2010-06-14 08:13
If USB Commander shows "Null device" when the scanner is plugged in, does this mean it is not detected or not recognized?

0 # RE: USB Commanderkarl 2010-06-14 08:28
Meanwhile also had his show as null device, but it works. That said, the driver doesn't support your model.
